SEOUL, South Korea, April 28, 2026 — Samsung Electronics is expected to withdraw from the sale of home appliances and televisions in China within this year, according to a report published Monday by Nikkei.
The report, citing unnamed sources, said the company aims to make a final decision on discontinuing sales of home appliances and TVs in China as early as the end of April.
Samsung said in a statement that it regularly reviews its global business structure in response to changes in the operating environment, adding that nothing has been decided regarding market speculation about a potential restructuring of its China operations.
Pressure From Domestic Competitors
The reported move comes as Chinese manufacturers continue to gain ground in both pricing and product quality. According to the Nikkei report, declining price competitiveness is a key factor behind Samsung’s potential exit.
Domestic brands in China have strengthened their position not only in the local market but also globally, leveraging lower costs alongside improving technology and design.
Manufacturing Operations to Continue
Despite the reported withdrawal from sales, Samsung will retain its production operations in China. Facilities producing refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners are expected to continue operating as supply hubs for overseas markets.
Ongoing Strategic Review
The company emphasized that no final decision has been made, underscoring that its global operations are under continuous review. Any shift away from China’s consumer market would reflect broader changes in competitive dynamics and regional profitability within the appliance and consumer electronics sectors.
- Sales exit under consideration for 2026
- Final decision could come by end of April
- Manufacturing footprint to remain in China
- Price competition cited as primary pressure point
The development highlights the growing challenge for multinational appliance brands operating in China as local competitors continue to expand their capabilities and global reach.
