Rediffusion Returns to Britain, Nearly a Century After the TV Pioneer Was Founded

Rediffusion, a British name rooted in the earliest days of wired radio and television, is expanding its modern revival into home appliances with a UK range covering air care, heating and cooling, floor care, heated bedding, laundry drying and kitchen products.

The new appliance push is being led by Bradford-based distributor EPE International. Launch information supplied to Appliance News positions the move as a UK relaunch nearly a century after Rediffusion’s founding, with the ZenAir 3-in-1 Bladeless Fan Heater & HEPA Air Purifier among the lead products.

There is an important wrinkle in that relaunch story: the Rediffusion name has already been making a gradual return. Rediffusion’s own history dates its brand revival to 2022, focused on heating, cooling and floor care, while EPE’s 2024 trade-show coverage shows Rediffusion among brands it exhibited at Spring Fair and the INDX Homewares Show. EPE’s current brand list also identifies Rediffusion in televisions. The 2026 announcement is therefore better understood as a broader appliance expansion and renewed consumer push than the first reappearance of a dormant trademark.

From Broadcasting Pioneer to Appliance Brand

The contrast with the original Rediffusion is substantial. The Science Museum Group traces Broadcast Relay Service Ltd. to 1928 and describes the business that became Rediffusion as an early distributor of radio broadcasts by wire. The company later rented television receivers and supplied an early form of cable television before becoming associated with commercial broadcasting.

A historical Rediffusion archive says the company introduced its first television set in 1947 for use on its wired networks. By the 1950s, Rediffusion was manufacturing television sets and expanding cable television services in Britain and overseas. That makes the current strategy unusual: a name built around delivering entertainment into the home is now being applied to appliances used to heat, cool, clean and manage the home itself.

ZenAir Leads a Much Broader Range

The new portfolio spans air-care products, heating and cooling appliances, vacuum cleaners, heated blankets and mattress warmers, heated clothes airers, kitchen appliances and other home-comfort products, according to material supplied by EPE.

One of the headline products is the ZenAir 3-in-1 Bladeless Fan Heater & HEPA Air Purifier, which combines a fan, ceramic heater and air filtration in one appliance. Rediffusion says the filtration system captures 99.95% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns. That is a manufacturer performance claim; Appliance News has not independently tested the ZenAir.

The breadth of the assortment matters as much as any one product. Rather than reviving Rediffusion around a single television or nostalgic electronics line, EPE is trying to make the name relevant across several small-appliance and home-comfort departments.

EPE Gives Rediffusion an Established Retail Route

EPE’s role gives the revived brand something a trademark alone cannot provide: an existing route into UK electrical and homewares retail. EPE says it operates from Bradford, West Yorkshire, with a 150,000-square-foot warehouse and supplies electrical retailers, department stores and other trade customers.

Its distribution portfolio already reaches many of the categories Rediffusion is entering. EPE’s current brands and products directory lists suppliers across air treatment, heating, floor care, countertop cooking and other small domestic appliance categories. The British Home Enhancement Trade Association also lists EPE as a distributor of branded small domestic appliances and cookware.

That distribution infrastructure could make the revival more consequential for retailers than a licensing announcement with no established sales channel. At the same time, Rediffusion will be competing in categories where EPE already handles well-known brands, meaning heritage will have to translate into products, pricing and retailer support that give stores a reason to add another name.

An Old Name Still Has to Build a New Appliance Reputation

Rediffusion’s history can give the new range a story that most appliance startups cannot match, but its television and broadcasting legacy does not establish the reliability or performance of the new products. For appliance buyers and retailers, practical questions such as warranty coverage, replacement parts, service arrangements, pricing and long-term product support will matter more as the range reaches the market.

The 2026 expansion nevertheless represents a striking change in what the Rediffusion name means. A company that once helped British households receive radio and television over wires is now trying to return to those households through fans, heaters, vacuums, heated bedding and kitchen appliances.
