GE Appliances Plans $490 Million Laundry Plant Investment in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 26, 2025 — GE Appliances, a Haier company, said it will invest $490 million at its Louisville, Kentucky, headquarters to build a new laundry manufacturing plant and shift production of several washer models to the United States. The project is expected to create 800 full-time jobs.

The company said the investment will support production of the GE Profile UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer and GE and GE Profile UltraFresh Front Load Washer lines at Appliance Park, its global headquarters and largest manufacturing site.

GE Appliances said the project is part of a broader 10-year, $3.5 billion investment in U.S. manufacturing and is intended to position the company as the largest American washer manufacturer.

“Manufacturing in the U.S. is fundamental to our ‘zero-distance’ business strategy to make appliances as close as possible to our customers and consumers.”

Kevin Nolan, president and CEO, GE Appliances

Washer Production Moving to Appliance Park

The company said the project will move production of more than 15 front-load washer models to Building 2 at Appliance Park. The new work will expand clothes care production at the Louisville campus to an area GE Appliances described as equivalent to 33 football fields.

Building 1 at Appliance Park already produces top-load washers and front-load dryers. Building 2 will be redesigned as what the company called a model factory, using automation, robotics and material-handling systems.

  • The new plant will include automated guided vehicles and autonomous mobile robots.
  • GE Appliances said the site will produce critical parts in-house, including stainless-steel baskets and cabinets.
  • The plant also will include metal stamping, forming, injection molding and production equipment.
  • The new manufacturing lines are expected to open in 2027.

Company Cites Reshoring Strategy

Nolan said the decision reflects the company’s effort to manufacture products closer to U.S. customers and consumers. GE Appliances also described the project as its most recent product reshoring move.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the announcement strengthens Louisville’s role as the global headquarters of GE Appliances and reinforces Kentucky’s position in advanced manufacturing.

Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said the nearly half-billion-dollar investment will create local jobs and support GE Appliances’ long-term growth in the city.

Laundry Product Lines Included

The production shift includes the GE Profile UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer, a ventless two-in-one appliance that washes and dries full-size loads in the same drum. GE Appliances said the product can complete a large laundry load in about two hours when using a normal wash and dry cycle with Eco Dry setting, based on company testing.

The investment also covers the GE Profile Front Load Washer with UltraFresh Vent System+ lineup. GE Appliances said the washer design is intended to reduce front-load washer odor through improved drainage, fresh-air circulation and antimicrobial technology built into certain components.

“Manufacturing in Louisville puts production closer to our designers, engineers and consumers so that together we can create our most innovative laundry platforms.”

State Incentives and Economic Impact

The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved performance-based incentives for the project through the Kentucky Business Investment program. GE Appliances said workforce training grants through the Kentucky Skills Network and funds to support building modernization also are part of the support package.

Final incentive amounts will depend on GE Appliances meeting job-retention and investment targets.

The company said its 2024 Kentucky economic impact report found GE Appliances contributed $12.8 billion to Kentucky’s gross domestic product, directly employed 8,000 people in the state and supported 30,500 additional Kentucky jobs through its economic activity.

GE Appliances also said it generated $655 million in state and local taxes and spent $318 million annually with 481 Kentucky suppliers.
