Midea and Hisense are competitors on appliance sales, but they are also cooperating behind the scenes on the expensive infrastructure that increasingly determines who can compete globally. Their strategic partnership covers artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, green factories, industrial internet systems and smart logistics.
The partnership is less about a shared refrigerator than a shared operating system
The companies said they would work on digital and AI platforms, including AI agents for manufacturing and logistics. They also identified global production-capacity planning, intelligent warehousing and coordination between factories and logistics networks as areas for cooperation.
That matters because the modern appliance business competes on more than product design. Forecasting demand, moving components between plants, allocating finished inventory and reducing delivery time can determine margin just as surely as the bill of materials inside a washer.
Global factory footprints create room to cooperate
Midea and Hisense both operate manufacturing networks outside China. Independent reporting from Yicai noted overlap across regions including Southeast Asia, Egypt and other international markets, creating potential for coordination in production and order fulfillment.
The companies remain separate competitors. A strategic cooperation agreement is not the same thing as a merger, and the announced areas are broad. The useful signal is that large appliance groups increasingly see data, logistics and manufacturing technology as platforms where scale can be shared even while brands continue to compete at retail.
Retailers may feel the effects before consumers see them
If the partnership improves inventory positioning or production coordination, the first visible effects could be availability, lead times and fulfillment rather than a co-branded appliance. For servicers, the longer-term question is whether shared digital infrastructure leads to more common components, diagnostics or support systems across product families.
The partnership was announced in May 2025 and has gained relevance as both companies continue expanding globally. Yicai Global and the China Household Electrical Appliances Association have detailed the cooperation areas.
