Midea and Residentia Group have formally announced a joint venture, confirming months of speculation about a potential deal between the two appliance companies.
The companies described the agreement as a strategic partnership combining Residentia’s position in the Australian market with Midea’s global manufacturing scale and smart appliance capabilities.
Residentia Group CEO Matthew Evans said the deal was finalized earlier this week while he was in London following the EuroCucina exhibition in Milan. Evans has since returned to Australia and briefed his team on the agreement.
“Aligning directly with Midea gives us access to global manufacturing capability, deeper product development resources and greater supply chain stability.”

What Changed
Evans said the partnership is not expected to disrupt day-to-day operations, describing the transition as “business as usual.” He said there will be no immediate changes to personnel, operating structure or existing retail partnerships.
The agreement remains subject to foreign investment approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, although the companies do not expect regulatory clearance to present a significant obstacle.
Why This Matters
Midea Australia and New Zealand general manager Ivan Ma said Australia represents a strategically important market for the company. He said Midea selected Residentia based on its growth trajectory, customer satisfaction performance, brand development and established retail and commercial relationships.
Ma said the joint venture marks a new phase of investment in the region and reflects Midea’s long-term commitment to expanding its presence in Australia. He added that the company intends to strengthen its existing partnerships as part of the agreement.

The Industry Impact
Evans said Residentia has spent more than a decade building brands, retail relationships and service infrastructure in Australia, and that direct access to manufacturing has been a key missing component.
For appliance retailers and distributors, the deal could strengthen product development, supply chain planning and brand support in the Australian market while preserving Residentia’s existing commercial relationships.
What Comes Next
Financial terms of the joint venture were not disclosed, and the companies have not provided ownership details or a timeline for completion beyond the pending regulatory approval.
